Good point, I'm looking too hard into things it seems.
I'm curious what SlyM's messages to the network were: I don't think they were shared.

My player is deeeaaaadAnd it's the stupid vigs' fault. One should pay attention to which players are more valuable when they're alive, such as Wandering Hero. He was an incredible asset in a recent previous phalla, thus the vig should have reasoned that the mafia would see him as a threat and as such would have been a likely mafia target. Vigging good players out of grudges is a quick way to screw your own team. Here I was worrying the badvigging legacy of Rawkking newbie phalladom wouldn't continue when we missed the guard day 1! I'll let thescruple explain his reasoning, don't actually know it myself. All I really did that day was tell him to consider targets that weren't really contributing to village discussion when he told me he was considering not killing anyone since he wasn't sure who to kill. I wasn't aware of wandering hero's activities in the previous phalla (and wouldn't have told him if I knew), so the kill was probably based on how WH presented himself that day? Kind of a lesson to all us vets who expect our legacy to protect us from vigs day 1 no matter what: sometimes people, especially new people, don't know anything about you.

In case you're confused, the mafia put in a kill order for Alkey and Scruple early yesterday morning and nobody changed it. Worst mafia ever.

If I'd noticed I was the only one left I would have made an effort to return to the board. Had company over all night. I feel like I lost us the game.

I didn't have a read on anyone, and was basically praying I didn't hit a special. Sorry, WH, and by extension, B:L. :\ Day 2, Kingmole and I discussed it, and decided to spare people who had contacted him claiming to be village until we could establish the network. We were suspicious of Taya, but she claimed to be village, so we couldn't be sure. I decided to off one of the two people who specifically mentioned not voting for her in their vote post, SlyM and SeGaTai, figuring if they came up red, we'd be off to a good start. KingMole agreed, and the order was sent on SeGaTai. Sorry about that one.

I hate emphasizing this for about the 300th time. But the guy who becomes the biggest distraction or the most noticeable is rarely the guy you are looking for.
(Especially since it was briefly touched on before)
Granted this was a newbie phalla, but there were people who had played in 10 or so games and mentors.
edit: If you were wondering I was Alkey's mentor. Though I assume that is pretty apparent.

Sorry about that one. hmm usually villagers avoid talking to network heads because they don't really have anything useful to add outside of the thread and they aren't confirmed. When it's done it's usually out of fear or enthusiasm or because they are actually phishing for info(and are mafia :I). Most of the larger games , you'll see villagers keeping to themselves. At least that has been my experience. When I've been part of inner circles and someone comes up to us. It usually causes some discussion. Not clearing them or damning them one way or the other...really. It kinda all depends on circumstance. Really the only time I would think someone is fishy for not contacting me is if the game was rolecall-able. If that is the case..poor mafia

In hindsight, voting and vigging the more vocal players makes the thread kind of boring to read. That's as good a reason I know to go for the quiet ones. Even though, given my usual lurking habits, I'd get the bullseye.

In my experience the mafia usually will have one or two good "face" players. That means that they can come across as somewhat helpful and they have a reasonable blend-in but don't completely fade from memory quality going for them.
The rest are usually completely unmemorable and usually go to lengths to be that way. Alkey was kinda that way , until the end. Which as Sly pointed out (despite voting for him). That conversation would have never occurred if he was mafia. Unless he was the last of his kind and he desperate or something of that sort.

I definitely recommend that mafia players be active in thread discussions. Not only is it more fun, but people won't suspect you.
I'll be careful about how I send and respond to PMs next time though, however I really really wanted to sniff out the specials.
